Rebeca Andrade Wins Gold, Makes History at Olympics
Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade has made history by winning gold in the women's individual all-around event at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
With this victory, Andrade has become the most decorated Brazilian athlete at the Olympics, surpassing Cesar Cielo, who won 5 medals in swimming.
Andrade has been teasing a new vault that has never been performed by a female gymnast, a triple-twisting Yurchenko. She landed the vault cleanly in her final performance, earning a score of 6.6, which contributed to her gold medal-winning total.
Andrade grew up one of 8 kids raised by a single mom. At age 4, she showed off at a gym tryout. After her silver medal in the Paris Olympics, she had been working hard to prepare for this moment.
